Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest from the Olympic Peninsula south in Washington; Washington to California.

Habitat: Moist woods at low elevations.

Description:
General:

Low, scapose perennials from slender, yellowish rhizomes, the scapes 5-12 cm. tall, shorter than the leaves.

Leaves:

Leaves all basal, long-petiolate, leathery, evergreen, the blades ternate-pinnatifid, the main leaflets 2-4 cm. long, ternately divided nearly to the base; secondary leaflets lobed halfway to the mid-vein, sharply toothed.

Flowers:

Scapes 1- to 2-flowered, 5-12 cm. long, slightly shorter than the leaves; sepals 5-8, linear-lanceolate, 6-10 mm. long, whitish, petaloid; petals 5-7, small, slenderly clawed, the blade narrowly lanceolate, basally glandular; stamens 15-25; pistils 5-10.

Fruits:

Follicles 8-12 mm. long, on a stipe.
